Vicente Ortiz, Jr

Vicente Ortiz, Jr, 44, affectionately known as Vince or VJ to friends and loved ones, passed away on June 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of courage and selflessness that will never be forgotten. 

​

VJ was born on October 9, 1979, to Vicente Sr. and Joan Ortiz. He graduated from Sinton High School in 1998. As a junior in high school, he began working summers at the Texas Department of Transportation. After graduating from high school, he remained with TxDOT for ten years. 

​

In 2009, VJ graduated from the Corpus Christi Police Academy 68th Session and served as a police officer for the Corpus Christi Police Department for 15 years. During his career, he was honored twice with a Lifesaving Award, one of which was for saving the life of his father. 

​

VJ was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart Priscilla and loving father to Sabreena and Vicente III ("Trae"). VJ was so proud of his family and his love for them was evident in all he did. He cherished his family above all else, finding the greatest joy in the moments with them. 

​

VJ will always be remembered for his sense of humor. His ability to bring laughter and light to even the toughest situations was one of his most cherished qualities. Whether sharing a funny story during his shift or making his family laugh with his jokes, funny faces, or antics, his humor was a source of comfort and joy for all those who knew him. 

​

VJ was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvino and Mauricia Ortiz, grandfather Guadalupe Garcia, great aunt Mariana Ramirez, and great grandfather, Atilano Garcia. 

​

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, and children, Sabreena and Vicente III; his parents, Vicente Sr. and Joan Ortiz; his sisters, Pauline Ortiz, Laura Reyna (Anthony), and Elizabeth Ortiz; his grandmother, Mary Alice Garcia; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; as well as loving extended family and friends whose lives were touched by his service and sacrifice and will forever cherish his memory. 

​

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 3 PM to 9 PM at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel with a holy rosary being recited at 7 PM. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Friday, June 7, 2024, at the San Patricio County Fairgrounds (219 W. Fifth Street, Sinton, TX). Interment will follow at Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton, TX.
