Jose Balderas Dominguez

Jose Balderas Dominguez, age 84, gained his wings on Friday, September 8, 2023, at his home, surrounded by the people he loved the most. He was a life-long resident of Odem, Texas. He served two years in the United States Army. Upon his release from the Army, he went to work for the Smelting Company. He then began training at the United State Post Office on his off hours. On July 16, 1971, he was sworn in as postmaster, where he served for thirty-two years. In addition to that, he served as a member of the District Drainage Committee for twenty years and on the school board for OEISD for thirty years. During his tenure on the school board, along with the other school board members, he played a role in accomplishing several projects for OEISD, including the addition of an all-weather track, a cafetorium, a band hall, a junior high school, an elementary school, kindergarten classes, a baseball field, a library, a computer lab, and a swimming pool. He and his wife were members of the Odem Band Booster Club for twelve years. His passions included carpentry, watching sports, and spending time with his family.

 

Proceeding him in death are his parents, Salvador Dominguez Sr. and Consuelo Dominguez, and a brother, Salvador Dominguez Jr. He is survived by his beautiful wife of sixty years, Maria Elena Dominguez, and his children, Priscilla (Rene), Isaac (Diana), and Lisa Marie (Ramon), as well as his grandsons, Michael Roy, Marc Anthony, Timothy James, Christopher Isaac, Nathan James, and Austin Brady. He is also survived by two sisters, Divina Gomez, and Consuelo Encinia (Jesse), and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

 

The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 P.M. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in Sinton, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday September 15, 2023, at the Primera Iglesia Bautista, with interment immediately following, at the San Pedro Cemetery.
