Helen K. Hopkins

Odem, Texas

Helen K. Hopkins died peacefully with her daughter by her side on April 18, 2024. Born in Bethlehem, Connecticut on January 24, 1931, she was the daughter of John and Adella Kalvaitis. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1949, and from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in most types of nursing during her long career. When she married she moved to California for a short time, but she called Texas her home. She loved to travel and met her goal of setting foot on all seven continents of the world at a time when women didn't travel alone and internet travel arrangements were not yet available. She loved classical music, and she loved to draw. Though she had trouble showing her tender side, she was proud of the nickname "Gigi" given to her by her great-grandchildren. Helen is survived by her daughter, Diane Green, and her son, Robert John Hopkins of Odem, Texas, grandchildren Dianna Green, James Green, Charles Green, David Green, and Sean Green, and many great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her step-brother, Clarence Senkus.
