Augustina Cantu Barrera, age 92, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother entered through the gates of heaven on March 25, 2024. Augustina was born on September 27, 1931 to Roberto and Alta Gracia (Soto) Cantu in West Sinton, Tx. Augustina married the love of her life Leobardo V. Barrera on Nov 10, 1947 and they had 10 beautiful children and settled in Edroy, Tx. They worked as migrant workers in the fields and traveled from state to state to provide for their family. Augustina was the strongest person you will ever meet, and was the matriarch of the family and made sure her family was taken care of. She knew the meaning of hard work and always giving your best effort in everything you do. She was a very special person with a very special personality that you couldn’t help but, just to love her. She will always be remembered as the mom/grandma that always made sure her hair, nails, and make-up were done perfectly. She will be dearly and greatly missed by all those who love and know her. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, grandmother (Juanita “Nina” Soto), husband, Leobardo V. Barrera, and her son Leobardo C. “Tutuy” Barrera Jr. Left to carry on her loving memory here on earth are her children Maria (the late Fernando) Villarreal, Amparo (Ruben) Soto, Sylvia (Oscar) Benavidez, Lydia(Alfredo) Morin, Robert (Diana) Barrera, Yolanda Ibarra, Guillermo Barrera, Alfredo (Rachel) Barrera, David Barrera, her 22 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 2pm to 9pm at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in Sinton, Tx with a rosary being recited at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 11am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Edroy, Tx. Interment will follow at the Edroy Cemetery. Please join us for a celebration of life for our beloved Augustina, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall in Edroy, immediately after the interment.
